Company is also eyeing a hybrid variant

Nissan recently announced plans to offer a 5.0-liter V8 Cummins turbo diesel engine in their next-generation Titan and it looks like Toyota was paying attention.

Toyota's Rick LoFaso revealed a "diesel engine is something that is on our evaluation list" for the new Tundra. He added "I think Cummins would bring instant name recognition and obviously they are a leader in diesel engine technology." While he stopped short of confirming a tie-up, LoFaso said Toyota isn't opposed to working with other companies as he noted recent partnerships with BMW and Tesla.

Toyota considering a Tundra diesel - report

Despite floating the possibility of a diesel engine, LoFaso confirmed the company is also considering a Tundra Hybrid. He went on to say either a hybridized or diesel engine could deliver "some pretty good real world fuel economy."
